BACKGROUND:
Tikapur is
a center of attraction not only Kailali district but of the whole Seti zone.
Kailali district also contains Tikapur Park and Tikapur library. The library, residing in the Tikapur
municipality ward no. 9, was established with the initiation of the municipality
and spread the notion of education
development among the children.The establishment of the library, famous
as academic city – Tikapur city, was envisioned by the Tikapur municipality and
the community people involved in library work. And the special effort from the
committee on the date 2061-10-18 B.S. ,(Jan. 31, 2005) as per the organization
registration Act 2034 Article 4
registration no. 802 / 061 (2005 AD) and society welfare centre and its
number(17588-date 2061-12-26) as well. Right after its establishment, Tikapur Development Board committee decided to
provide approximately 0-4-1.02 (4 Katta and one Dhur) area of land at local
level for the construction of library. The library was successfully built with
the help from various donors and contributors. The library received fund from
Ministry of Local Development 19 lakh 9 thousand (1,90,9000), Town Development
Fund (T.D.F) 32Lakh 74 thousand 62 rupees and Tikapur municipality 15 lakh 35
thousand 1 hundred 85, in total 67 lakh 18 thousand 2 hundred and 47 (for
building construction 59, 45,351 and tax 7, 72,895). After the Construction of
building, library received the fund 15 Lakh 91 thousand 2 hundred 26
rupees from READ Nepal for the
collection and interior management. Now
it is running by above explained infrastructure.
OBJECTIVES:
§ Publicize the Community Library at
local level.
§ Seek the contribution of CBOs, GOs,
NGOs and INGOs to establish its infrastructures and smooth management to serve
the community in the local level.
§ For the development of the community
and make it independent, conduct trainings, seminars and workshops with the
help of local, national and international organizations.
§ Develop various types of fund raising
activities to develop & sustain TCL.
§ Planning skill oriented trainings in
cooperation with the organizations related to women's empowerment programs.
§ Collect the study books in various
subjects from different country ambassadors, publications and research centers.
§ Effectively implement the defined
rules and discipline to run the library smoothly.

STAFFING:
Tikapur Community library is under the monitoring of READ
Nepal. It was established under the READ Model. According to READ Model five sections
are currently in operation.

FACILITIES
AND SERVICES:
The Tikapur Community Library is one Library in area
which provides free services to the community people without any charges. The
Resources of Tikapur Community Library are freely available to all users for
use inside and outsides.

CURRENTLY RUNNING PROGRAMS:
v EES (Education
Economic and Social Devlopment)
EES Project is starting from March 2011 with the supports of READ
Nepal. Its catchment area is Tikapur Municipality Ward no 9. In this project we
are conducting education related training program with the local community
people, providing a platform to local inclusive communities for social
initiatives, providing trainings on health for prevention of diseases and
better quality life of community people addressing with gender equality. We are
also providing free internet access on computer and email/internet.
PAS (Practical
Answer Service):
Practical answer service is starting from July, 2011 in Tikapur municipality
with joint initiation of READ Nepal , Practical Action Nepal and Tikapur
Community Library. It is the Technical Information Service of it aims to provide a resource on
small-scale technologies or intermediate technologies that can be used to
improve the lives of people living in poverty.
It allows people to access the wealth of technical information within
Practical Action and well as bringing together the knowledge of others.
Practical Answers is provided free of charge in tikapur Municipality by Tikapur
Community Library. In the starting stage
we are providing information Mainly about Agriculture, livestock, and health
related Enqueries.
